Is it possible to set up your shop with too many frills like top techs , big warranties , delivery , loaner cars , shuttle people , car clean up , newsletters, multiple service writers , written quotes , email and text communications and updates ? Will you eliminate a group of clients that are still good people but don’t have the income to support this type of shop ?

Hi Rick, in my opinion, you can never have too many frills, as long as those frills are providing a much better customer experience. Yes, they do come at a cost to you and that cost must be passed on to the consumer – which in turn may lead to a few leaving to move on to a less expensive shop. If you are familiar with the 80/20 rule, you know that 80% of your income will come from only 20% of your customers. The goal is to attract as many 20%-ers to your shop so that you can make the profits that you deserve. If you’re willing to be paid less for the same work, then go ahead and save some of the folks that cannot afford your services – as long as you know that you, as the owner are subsidizing them.
